Background
Nova Scotia has a distinguished Aerospace and Defence heritage dating back to the 17th century when British and French naval bases were established in what is now Nova Scotia. More recently, it was the location of the first flight in the British Empire in 1909 with the design, build and flight of the historic "Silver Dart" aircraft. Thus began the industries that continue to deliver quality leading edge products and services in both national and international markets.
World class aerospace and defence firms are the foundation of the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Nova Scotia. These highly motivated firms, backed by a skilled workforce are largely complementary and taken together, constitute a significant and growing factor in this sector of Canada's economy.
To promote recognition of this strength, Industry members, with support from the Federal Government and the Province of Nova Scotia, have joined to actively promote development, growth and enhance recognition of the capabilities and resources of the Nova Scotia Aerospace and Defence sector through the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Nova Scotia (ADIANS).
Mission
To advance the development and promotion of the Nova Scotia aerospace and defence industry through mutual co-operation and appropriate interaction with Provincial and Federal Governments, the industry at large and the community.
Objectives
Coordination:
- To identify products and services available within the industry in the interest of creating synergy and recognizing sales and R&D opportunities
- To recognize individual member expertise in the interest of mutual growth and development
- To collect and disseminate any internal and external relevant information in the interest of the membership
- To network with national and international aerospace and defence community
Planning:
- To identify major international marketing opportunities and plan a coordinated response within the membership
- To facilitate activities to advance technological and business development within the membership
- To ensure that future training and educational needs are recognized and provided
Promotion:
- To increase the global awareness of the products. services, skills and expertise resident within the Nova Scotia aerospace community
Advocacy:
- To advise Governments on support programs of mutual interest and of issues of concern to the Association
- Seek and acquire a proportionate share of aerospace contracts
- Ensure concerns of the membership are recognized within the national agenda
Short-Term Goals:
- Development of a coordinated promotional package featuring company profiles of all member companies.
- ADIANS attendance of major trade shows of interest to its membership, thereby maximizing exposure of all member companies.
- Recruitment of all interested Nova Scotia aerospace companies.
- Establishment of a market information database and an opportunity flagging mechanism based on member company business interests.
Medium-Term Goals:
- Increase exports and job opportunities in the province.
- Provide feedback and input to provincial educational programs to ensure they support the industry in its growth.
- Sponsor seminars on topics of interest to members.
- Organize trade missions either to or from the province in concert with like provincial government initiatives.
Long-Term Goal (Within Five Years):
- Double the size of the aerospace and defence industry in Nova Scotia
